Course Description: This course focuses on the development and practice of basic
communication, assessment and psychomotor skills, which are
utilized in the nursing care of patients. A clinical laboratory
component provides an opportunity for student to practice
fundamental skills with teaching models and classmates. Students
will provide basic nursing care for patients in a long-term care
setting.

Course Objectives: 1. Use nursing knowledge from the natural and behavioral
sciences, arts, humanities and nursing science as basis for
culturally competent baccalaureate generalist nursing practice.

2. Discuss concepts of organizational theory and systems
leadership in clinical decision making in the enactment of
safe, quality care to culturally diverse persons, families, and
