Question 8

1CC6 Assignment 2 Question 8
Explain the 3 main processes that are critical for urine production or formation and for each
process give one example of how the body regulates each process.
**3 main steps of urine formation: glomerular filtration, reabsorption, and secretion
Step 1: The glomeruli make filtrate (p 984-989)
Glomerular filtration is a passive process in which hydrostatic pressure forces fluids and solutes
through a membrane.
Filtration membrane consists of :
1) Fenestrated (porus) glomerular endothelium: prevents filtration of blood
cells but allows all components of blood plasma to pass through
2) Basement membrane
3) Podocyte visceral layer of glomerular capsule
