 The nurse teaches the patient with valvular heart disease about:
o Diagnosis
o Progressive nature of valvular disease
o Treatment plan
 Teach patient to report new symptoms or changes in symptoms to the HCP
 Teach patient that the infectious agent, usually a bacterium, is able to adhere to the diseased heart valve more
readily than to a normal valve
o Results in Endocarditis
o Further damage to the heart valve
o Teach the patient how to minimize risk of developing Infective Endocarditis
 Teach client about the importance of attempting to relieve the symptoms of angina with rest and relaxation before
taking the nitroglycerin
