Elements of Decision-Making Process
• Interpretation – look for patterns in behavior, clarify information
• Analysis- open minded, do not make careless assumptions
• Inference – look at meanings and relationships
• Explanation- assess all situations, effectiveness of actions, support finding or conclusions
• Self-regulation – reflect on experience, standards of practice, how to improve
Levels of Critical Thinking
• Level 1 – Basic – thinking is concrete and based on a set of rules or principles
• Level 2 – Complex – willing to consider other options. Thinking becomes more creative,
innovative, and patient-centered
