Research Purpose and Research Questions
The purpose of this study was to look at the observations from ten first year teachers who had been “trained to provide evidence-based practices, including integrated services and supports,” but took jobs in self-contained special education classrooms for students with moderate to severe disabilities. These jobs were in elementary and middle-school classrooms. (Gee & Gerdin, 2018) The research question of the study was, “What are the experiences of 10
first-year teachers who graduated from a teacher preparation program emphasizing evidencebased, inclusive practices, but took jobs in separate, special education classrooms designated for students with moderate/severe and/or multiple disabilities?” (Gee & Gerdin, 2018) In the qualitative study, the researchers wanted to know the experiences of the teachers who were prepared in an inclusion based teaching program but ended up taking jobs in self-contained special education classrooms.
